Located at 1385 attitude Hospice de France was built to keep the passage between Spain and France and give a shelter for the pilgrims and the tradesmen It is a very beautiful part of Pyrenees and a great, accessible starting point with a car park on side.
There are many hiking trails around the Hospice de France. Our focus here is only on a small part of a larger trail. The final photography spot (above) is around 1 hour walk from the Hospice.
From the parking take a path towards 'Puerto de la Picada' (Spanish Side). First little part leads through woodland to finish with a completely open flank of the mountain with a grassy plateau. That very open view with the 'Fréche Valley' on the very bottom give a good chance to witness a spectacle of light.
On this not too difficult trail (moderate) you will be rewarded with a view of the mountain range stretching away into the distance with a dominating dramatic shape of Pic de la Mine and its very spiky ridge - Aiguille Morin, Bec de Corbeau and Petit Corbeau.
There are many ground rocks by the trail which could be used as a great first plan in a composition. Look for shapes which could potentially work as a leading line.
If not keen to trek too much there are also great views just on the outskirt of the woods (beginning of the marked path). The best is to approach it before the sunrise and witness a light changes on the mountain ridges.
The spot could be reached within 30 min walk from the parking area, located just outside of the Hospice de France.
