AROUND THE ESPINGO REFUGE

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

Surrounded by a few mountain lakes refuge 'Espingo' is a great destination for landscape photographers. The edge of one of these lakes - 'Lac Saussat' is quite rocky. Some of these rocks are completely submerged under its crystal-clear water and some gently emerge from the lake. They can work as a great first plan; look for stones and shapes which could lead to the main subject. There is plenty of them around the lake and they are quite accessible (located on the main path to the 'Refuge du Portillon').

Early morning visit often gives the viewer a chance to witness extremely clear reflections on the water. Generally, reflections are clearest before sun reach the lake surface (lake must be still in the shadow). Of course, it depends of the weather conditions that day.

Here is the map of the location. 'X' marked the point where the above picture was taken. The sky was clear, which is usually not the most desirable for landscape photography, but the strong horizontal lines helped to achieve a very simplified, almost minimalistic composition.
